Proposals concerning public property, staffing for the Rhodes Land Registry and the island’s court facilities were discussed at a series of meetings in Athens attended by Dodecanese MP Giannis Pappas and Rhodes Bar Association president Vasilis Katavenakis.
During a meeting with Antigoni Giannakaki, Secretary-General for Public Property, they proposed legislative changes, including the removal of a requirement to provide an E9 property declaration when purchasing certain state-owned land in Rhodes. According to Pappas’s statement, the E9 declaration did not serve as proof under the island’s land registration system.
They also raised the possibility of extending an existing provision concerning public land transferred through forged decisions to cover cases involving acquisition by long possession. The statement says Giannakaki agreed to examine the proposals for possible inclusion in a bill. No legislative change has yet been enacted on the basis of these discussions.
At a meeting with the president of the Hellenic Cadastre, Mr Lipas, Pappas and Katavenakis were informed that checks preceding the hiring of additional staff for the Rhodes Land Registry Office are in their final stage. According to the statement, guidance on registering mediation agreements will be added to the relevant manual, while the Ministry of Justice will examine the legal issues surrounding combined registration acts.
The two men also met Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis and the ministry’s secretary-general, Mr Laskos, to discuss court facilities. Pappas’s statement says the minister plans to visit Rhodes to sign an agreement for the restoration of the existing courthouse. A study is also planned on moving some court services into the former Land Registry building, while possible sites for a new courthouse were discussed.
“We will continue to monitor their implementation closely until the decisions become reality,” Pappas said, stressing the need for the commitments to lead to practical solutions for Rhodes residents and professionals.
