Announcement – 12th Regular Meeting of the Kalymnos Municipal Council – May 16, 2025
On May 16, 2025, the 12th regular meeting of the Municipal Council of Kalymnos was held, during which important decisions were made concerning the island’s financial, social, and urban development:
- The 3rd revision of the municipal budget and technical program for the year 2025 was approved.
- The direct purchase of property in the “Patithries” area, within the settlement limits of Pothia, owned by the Maragkos family, was approved.
- A modification of Decision No. 12/2021 was approved, regarding the free allocation of the upper floor of the Pserimos clinic building for the co-location of the Coast Guard Station and the Police Station.
- The installation locations for Recycling Reward Centers were approved:
- Port (bus terminal)
- Sports field (near TEMAK kiosk)
- Myrties (playground or the Eliés and Vouváli area playground)

- The municipality’s membership in the Hellenic Healthy Cities Network of the World Health Organization (WHO) was approved, including the approval of the network’s charter and appointment of municipal representatives.
- Marking of pedestrian crossings and signage outside the cemeteries of “Taxiarchis” and “Panagia Limiotissa” was approved.
- Parking regulations and signage adjustments were approved for:
- Main commercial road of Pothia:
- Uphill: From “Nostimo” souvlaki shop to “Koumparas” supermarket, right-side parking is only for motorcycles, and cars stop only with hazard lights.
- Downhill: From Psarombas gas station to National Bank, the right side is for motorcycles, and the left side parking is prohibited.
- Uphill: From “Nostimo” souvlaki shop to “Koumparas” supermarket, right-side parking is only for motorcycles, and cars stop only with hazard lights.
- Central coastal zone:
- From Mamouzelos ouzeri to the Town Hall: motorcycle parking allowed on one side; car parking spaces remain unchanged on the opposite side.
- Same rules apply from the Naval Museum to the National Bank, and from the National Bank to Porto pizzeria and Michalaras pastry shop: right side for brief stops only (hazard lights), left side for motorcycle parking.
- Deliveries allowed until 10:30 a.m.
- From Mamouzelos ouzeri to the Town Hall: motorcycle parking allowed on one side; car parking spaces remain unchanged on the opposite side.
- Main commercial road of Pothia:
- The pedestrianization of the Linaria road was approved from July 15 to September 15, 2025, daily from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., from “Artemis” mini market to Athanasiou’s restaurant. A chain barrier will be used, managed by an employee appointed by the Kantouni-Linaria Association. Residents and workers will have special permits for vehicle access. No parking will be allowed on the road or Linaria Square. Deliveries must be completed before pedestrian hours.
- The pedestrianization of the “Rina” area in Vathy was approved for July 15 to September 15, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, with similar access permits for residents/workers and restricted delivery hours.
- One-way traffic regulations in the Chora area of Kalymnos were approved:
- One-way street behind the residence of Mr. Minettos leading to Agios Charalambos junction.
- One-way from Petroula Pizania’s property toward the bridge of Chora, near the Church of Panagia Kecharitomeni.
- One-way street behind the residence of Mr. Minettos leading to Agios Charalambos junction.
- The request for use of public space to install a non-permanent staircase in the area of Agios Georgios Kalamiotissas was not approved.
- The replacement of members on the board of the Legal Entity “Kalymnos Municipal Port Fund” was approved.
- Michalis Platsis, municipal councilor of the majority, was appointed as the new President, replacing Anastasios Trikilis.

The session concluded with a focus on improving daily life for residents and advancing sustainable development for the island.
