Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has welcomed plans for a subsidised remote-work programme for residents of island and mountain regions, in a statement issued on 23 September 2026.
According to Konsolas, under the scheme being planned by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, businesses in those regions would be able to hire local residents to work from home. The proposed subsidy would cover 90% of wages and social insurance contributions for 12 months.
Konsolas called the initiative a positive step, linking employment support in remote areas to demographic challenges and regional development. His press release describes a programme under development; it does not provide a launch date, eligibility rules or application instructions.
The MP also renewed his call for subsidised winter training programmes for seasonal workers in tourism and hospitality. He said workers need opportunities to develop new skills, alongside income support during periods when they are out of work and no longer covered by unemployment benefits.
“We must create the conditions for a minimum guaranteed income for seasonal workers during the period when they are not working,” Konsolas said.
