Residents of the United States, the United Kingdom and Israel can now begin a banking relationship in Greece remotely through Alpha Bank. The service is open to diaspora Greeks and other residents of those countries with ties to Greece. It was already available to residents of Germany and Cyprus.
Applicants start by completing an online expression-of-interest form. A bank adviser then explains the required documents, and identity verification takes place by video call. Once the necessary checks are completed, customers can obtain a deposit account, debit card and e-Banking access without visiting a branch in Greece.
Customers may also apply remotely for a mortgage to buy property in Greece. Applying does not mean that a loan will be approved.
