The Cardiology Ward at Kalymnos Hospital will be inaugurated on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., marking the completion of a significant upgrade to the facilities of the island’s Vouvaleio Hospital.
According to the hospital administration, the ward forms part of a recently renovated 400-square-metre hospital area. The renovation was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, with €604,000 in funding from the Recovery Fund.
Furnishings and non-medical equipment for the renovated area, costing €22,400, were financed through the hospital’s own budget.
A particularly meaningful contribution came from siblings Katerina and Ilias Kathopoulis, who donated the Cardiology Ward’s medical equipment, valued at €32,500, in memory of their late father, Michalis Kathopoulis, a doctor who served at Kalymnos Hospital.
The hospital administration and Board of Directors expressed their warm thanks to the donors. Their contribution links the ward’s upgrade to the memory of a doctor and his service to the local community.
The announcement was signed by hospital administrator Typadis-Panteleimon Kongas.
