Titles, National Records and International Achievements
The athletes of the Proteas Kalymnos Nautical and Swimming Club completed an outstanding 2025-2026 season, collecting medals, first-place finishes, Greek national records and major international results.
The club submitted a detailed list of its athletes’ achievements to the Municipality of Kalymnos Sports Office ahead of the island’s planned Sports Celebration. The results reflect a highly successful year across individual races, relay events, youth categories and Masters competitions.
At the Regional Swimming Championship, Proteas swimmers secured dozens of podium finishes. Individual race winners included Dimitris Goulias, Evelina Kokkinou, Eirini-Anna Poullou, Thaleia Chatzidaki, Anna Giallouri, Iliana Metaxotou, Eprepeia Siani, Eleftheria Siani and Manolis Kallikantzaros Mouchourtis, while many other club athletes claimed second and third places.
Proteas also achieved strong results in the relay events, repeatedly reaching the podium in the OPEN, 13-16 and pre-competitive age groups. The club secured first place in the girls’ pre-competitive 4x50m freestyle relay, the girls’ pre-competitive 4x50m medley relay and two mixed pre-competitive relays.
One of the season’s major achievements was Proteas being crowned champion club in the Girls, Girls A and Girls B categories for the third consecutive year. Eirini-Anna Poullou, Marianna Katsotourchi, Eleni Margripli, Anna Giallouri, Vasileia Kallikantzarou, Thaleia Chatzidaki, Eleni Tourna, Iliana Metaxotou and Maria Monokandilou contributed to this success.
In the overall standings, Proteas finished second in the women’s classification and the girls’ 18-23 category, while claiming first place among girls aged 13-16. The Kalymnos club also placed fourth in the combined men’s and women’s standings and in the combined 13-16 boys’ and girls’ classification.
Michalis Glynatsis delivered one of the season’s standout international performances at the European Ice Swimming Championship in Molveno, Italy. He won bronze in the men’s 30-34 100m backstroke and set Greek national records in the 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. According to Proteas, his times also represented the best Greek performances ever recorded in his age category.
At the Greek Masters Finswimming Championship in Volos, Glynatsis won gold in the 100m and 400m bi-fins and silver in the 50m and 200m bi-fins.
Chronis Themis also represented the club internationally, finishing 14th in the men’s 30-39 age group in the 10-kilometre race at the Oceanman Open Water Swimming World Championship in Abu Dhabi. He completed the demanding event in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 57 seconds.
At the Greek Masters Swimming Championship held at the Papastrateio Aquatic Centre in Piraeus, Charikleia Dile claimed third place in the women’s 40-44 100m butterfly.
The club’s long list of achievements highlights the consistent work being carried out by Proteas Kalymnos and confirms the island’s increasingly strong presence in Greek and international swimming.
