Telendos will become a stage for the memories of the sponge divers on 25, 26 and 27 September 2026. The documentary theatre production “anAPNOI” will be performed at 7:15 p.m. at the island’s Observation Post, with free admission.
Produced by Das Letzte Kleinod in collaboration with the Kalymnos Theatre Group, the performance draws on accounts from Telendos residents who lived through the era of sponge diving. Their stories explore the divers’ demanding work aboard traditional boats, their voyages in search of sponges and the trade’s importance to the Dodecanese islands.
The production will be staged at the abandoned observation station known locally as the Paratiritirio. According to the organisers’ information, it is supported by the Municipality of Kalymnos and organisations in Germany.
Against the backdrop of the sea that shaped the sponge divers’ lives, “anAPNOI” brings the voices of that era to the stage.
