Poet Antonis Fostieris welcomed Niki Reisi to his summer home in Masouri, Kalymnos, on 21 September 2026. Their conversation for Epikentro explored his decades in poetry and his contribution to Greek literature.
Born in Athens in 1953, Fostieris traces his family roots to Amorgos. He studied law in Athens and legal history in Paris. Since 1971, he has published ten poetry collections. His work has also been brought together in the volumes Poetry 1970–2005 and Complete Poems 1970–2020. According to his biography, 32 book translations of his work have been published by houses in Europe and the Americas.
Fostieris has also played a longstanding role in literary publishing. He was the publisher and editor of Nea Poiisi and co-publisher and editor of I Lexi. His honours include the Greek State Poetry Prize in 2004 and the Academy of Athens’ Ouranis Award in 2010 for his body of work.
His connection to Kalymnos is also personal: his wife, Maria N. Mavrou, is from the island.
