The GSEE and ADEDY have declared a 24-hour nationwide strike on Wednesday, October 1, in protest against the government’s new labor bill introducing a 13-hour workday and further undermining workers’ rights.
SYRIZA-PS highlights that, for six years, the Mitsotakis government has systematically eroded labor protections, abolishing the 13th pension, refusing to reinstate the 13th and 14th salaries for public sector employees, and weakening labor inspections amid rising workplace accidents.
The party calls for:
- Abolition of all anti-labor laws passed by New Democracy.
- Significant increase of the minimum wage through a national collective agreement.
- Restoration of the 13th and 14th salary for public sector workers.
- Extended unemployment benefits for seasonal workers in tourism and catering.
- Stronger enforcement mechanisms to protect workers.
SYRIZA-PS urges mass participation in the strike and rallies across the country, including the central demonstration at Klathmonos Square in Athens, to send a strong message of opposition to the government’s labor policies.
