Questions raised over €500,000 funding to ANEK by Kalymnos opposition
Serious concerns regarding the allocation of €500,000 to ANEK for the completion of a new vessel are raised in an official letter by Dimitrios Diakomichalis, head of the “Kalymnos Power of Perspective” faction.
In the letter dated April 21, 2026, addressed to the Deputy Mayor for Financial and Administrative Affairs, it is noted that the Municipal Council had approved, through decisions 45/2025 and 52/2025, an increase in ANEK’s share capital by €500,000 to support the completion of a new vessel.
According to the document, the amount was disbursed in two installments in March and April 2025. However, no clear information has been provided on how the funds were used, despite repeated requests to the company’s management.
The letter highlights that, based on previously presented data, only €237,000 was required to complete the vessel, raising questions about the use of the full €500,000. It also notes that one year later, the vessel has still not been completed.
Mr. Diakomichalis calls on the responsible Deputy Mayor to investigate whether the funds were used for their intended purpose and to provide a detailed breakdown of payments.
The letter warns that, in the absence of a response, the matter may be escalated to the competent authorities, while it has also been shared with the media.
