The interpretive circular highlights, among other things, the following:
✓ The Regulation aims to protect the lives and safety of citizens, protect the environment, and ensure fire protection and safety of buildings located within or adjacent to forest areas, as well as to limit their contribution to the spread of fire.
✓ The Regulation for Property Fire Protection within and near forested areas applies to properties located within plots or fields in forests, forested and grassland areas, suburban green areas, declared forested or reforested areas, as well as within a radius of three hundred (300) meters from them, or located within parks and wooded areas of urban and residential areas.
✓ For these properties, it is mandatory to prepare a Risk Assessment and Technical Report by a competent technical expert until March 31, 2024.
✓ Following the Technical Report, property owners are required, within one month, i.e., by April 30, 2024, to submit a declaration of implementation of fire safety measures, stating the correct implementation of the measures provided in the report of the competent technical expert, based on the provisions of the Regulation for the protection of their property in case of fire.
✓ The provisions of fire prevention measures of the Regulation are mandatory for all properties of the aforementioned cases for the upcoming fire season of the year 2024. They include access to the property, creation of protection zones, storage of materials, regular cleaning, and preparation of an Evacuation Preparedness Plan.
✓ The passive and active fire protection measures provided in the report of the competent technical expert are mandatory from March 31, 2025, for properties characterized as high and very high risk, and from March 31, 2026, for properties characterized as low or medium risk.
✓ Until the operation of the special electronic platform where the Risk Assessment Form, the Technical Report, and the Declaration of Application of fire safety measures by the owner will be registered, the aforementioned details are submitted in duplicate in printed form to the relevant Municipality.
✓ It should be noted that failure to comply with the above, entails sanctions imposed by the Municipality or the Fire Service in combination with other preventive measures.
