Members of a diving club from Port-de-Bouc, France, visited Kalymnos with their families and spent approximately two weeks on the island. Their trip followed a visit to the French town last June by Kalymnos Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Culture and the Diaspora Kalliopi Koutouzi.
The visitors explored Kalymnos’s coastline, beaches and local cuisine. According to a statement from the municipality, they met with Koutouzi, exchanged gifts and discussed potential cooperation on diving and dive tourism.
Koutouzi also met Theo Mavrostomos as part of her contacts with Kalymnians living in France. Mavrostomos, who is of Kalymnian descent, holds a Guinness record for a simulated dive in a pressure chamber at the equivalent of 701 metres, according to the municipal statement. He expressed interest in drawing on his diving experience to help develop tourism on the island.
The Municipality of Kalymnos says the meetings are part of its efforts to strengthen ties with the diaspora and build partnerships that promote the island as a diving destination.
