The economy, public health, education and crisis response will feature prominently in the European Parliament’s work during the week of 28 September to 2 October 2026. MEPs are due to meet European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, while parliamentary committees will examine Europe’s cancer plan, the future of Erasmus+ and a new Civil Protection Mechanism.
On Monday 28 September, the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) will hold its regular exchange of views with Lagarde. The Public Health Committee (SANT) will assess the implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan on the same day.
On Tuesday 29 September, the Culture and Education Committee (CULT) will discuss the next Erasmus+ programme for 2028–2034. The second EU Parliamentary Democracy Forum will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday 30 September, bringing together MEPs, national parliamentarians, civil society representatives and academics.
On Thursday 1 October, the Environment Committee (ENVI) and the Public Health Committee (SANT) are scheduled to vote on the new seven-year Civil Protection Mechanism. ENVI is also expected to adopt its priorities ahead of the COP31 UN climate conference.
Political groups will meanwhile prepare for the 5–8 October plenary session. Its planned agenda includes defence innovation, EU–China relations, anti-corruption policy, protection from hazardous substances at work and psychosocial risks linked to work-related stress. MEPs are also due to discuss Europe’s challenges and future with Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro as part of the “This is Europe” debate series.
