Giannis Pappas, Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese with New Democracy, submitted a parliamentary intervention requesting an additional six-month extension for food service businesses to comply with Law 5193/2025 regarding canopy structures within the Land Port Zone of Kalymnos.
In his submission to the Ministers of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, National Economy and Finance, and Environment and Energy, he conveyed the strong concerns of local professionals and the Kalymnos Catering Association. He noted that winter weather conditions, reduced tourism activity, and increased financial pressure make immediate compliance by 31 January 2026 practically unfeasible without serious consequences for businesses and employment.
Mr. Pappas stressed that state policy must take into account the specific challenges of island regions, seeking balanced solutions that ensure legality while safeguarding local economic activity and jobs.
