“Evidence, Not Reassurances, Must Have the Final Say”
The immediate publication of all laboratory analyses concerning water quality in the municipal supply network and Kalymnos General Hospital is being requested by faction leader Giorgos Mavros, following recent developments and the concern they have caused within the local community.
In a public statement, Mavros stresses that, when public health is at stake, citizens’ trust cannot be based solely on statements and verbal assurances. Instead, he argues, it must rest on officially released, scientifically documented evidence.
“On matters of public health, evidence—not reassurances—must have the final say,” he states.
The faction is calling for the publication of the results of every laboratory test carried out during 2025 and 2026, together with the precise sampling locations across the entire municipal water supply network. According to the statement, releasing these records would provide objective answers regarding water quality and help rebuild public confidence.
A similar request is made concerning Kalymnos General Hospital. The faction is seeking the release of all test results from the hospital’s internal water network for the same periods, so that the public can have a complete picture of whether all required procedures were properly followed.
Mavros is also calling on the competent public health authority to officially confirm whether all inspections required by law were conducted at the prescribed intervals, both in the municipal network and within the hospital, and to disclose their findings.
The statement further argues that press conferences and verbal reassurances are not sufficient to restore a sense of safety when they are not accompanied by the relevant laboratory data.
“Public health should be neither a matter of communication management nor a field for political confrontation. It requires immediate information from those responsible, supported by scientific evidence,” the faction states.
Concluding, the faction calls for all relevant analyses and supporting records to be made public, allowing every resident to assess the actual situation through official and objective data. It maintains that transparency is the only way to restore confidence and provide meaningful protection for public health.
