Speaking alongside his lawyers, Trikoilis welcomed the appeal court’s conviction of Giannis Diamantis, stressing both his personal vindication and the importance of safeguarding the electoral process.
Giorgos Trikoilis held a press conference at the Chamber of Commerce premises in Kalymnos on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 6 p.m., accompanied by his lawyers, Giorgos Mamouzellos and Dimitris Kardoulias. The press conference focused on the October 15 appeal court conviction of Giannis Diamantis in the case concerning the alteration of the results of the 2019 municipal elections.
Trikoilis expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing the ruling as a personal vindication while also highlighting its significance for democracy and the integrity of the vote.
The speakers also referred to an earlier ruling by Greece’s Council of State concerning the electoral aspect of the case, which, according to the account presented at the press conference, had upheld his challenge.
Particular attention was paid to the disputed ballot papers and their lack of the folds and creases normally expected after placement inside voting envelopes and the ballot box. Trikoilis’s side attached particular legal significance to the court’s assessment of this evidence. According to the information presented at the press conference; the recent trial was the motivation for a general rule enacted automatically invalidating every unfolded ballot paper.
Trikoilis also responded to Diamantis’s announcement on social media that he intended to challenge the conviction before Greece’s Supreme Court, the Areios Pagos. He said he was prepared to defend his position if proceedings continued, also referring to the possibility of the matter reaching a European court.
The press conference was streamed live on Facebook by Kalymnos Times.
