A new digital era is beginning for drivers in Greece, as the renewal of driver’s licenses will now be carried out exclusively online. According to an official decision signed on March 3, 2026 by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Konstantinos Kyranakis, traditional paper applications with physical folders will be permanently abolished after a short transition period.
The new digital system
Applications and supporting documents for all driver’s license categories (with or without the Professional Competence Certificate – P.E.I.) will now be submitted through the government platform:
drivers-vehicles.services.gov.gr
Citizens will access the system using their Taxisnet credentials.
Transition period & deadlines
A one-month transition period has been introduced to facilitate the shift to the new system, lasting until early April 2026.
Until then:
- Transport Services will still accept physical application folders.
After the deadline:
- Online submission will become mandatory.
Exceptions will only be accepted in cases of proven objective inability, such as not having an AMKA number, after communication with the relevant service.
The 5 steps of the new process
The new procedure is designed to reduce bureaucracy and waiting time.
1️ Login

2️ Medical examination

3️ Photo & signature
