Dimitris Diakomichalis, head of the “Kalymnos: A Force for Progress” municipal group, has called for his group to take over the management of ANEK following an independent financial audit. In a press release dated 24 September 2026, he addresses Kalymnos Mayor Giannis Mastrokoúkos and criticizes the company’s current position.
His statement follows recent comments by the mayor to local media about ANEK. Diakomichalis claims that, when the current municipal administration took office in 2024, the company had two seaworthy vessels operating services and a third under construction. Completing the new vessel would have required €230,000, he says.
According to Diakomichalis, the two operating vessels now face recurring problems, the new vessel remains at the shipyard, and the Nisos Kalymnos has been in Drapetsona for nine months. He also raises concerns about ferry schedules and the company’s financial viability.
Diakomichalis calls for an independent audit by certified accountants to establish how the €7 million he says ANEK has received was spent and what the company currently owes.
“It is not too late,” he says, adding that his group is willing to take over after the audit. He closes his statement with a direct appeal to the mayor: “Hand over the company to us now.”
