Health awareness action on colorectal cancer prevention by Kalymnos Hospital
Continuing its active presence in the local community, the Office of Prevention & Health Promotion of the General Hospital – Health Center of Kalymnos “Vouvaleio” announces a new targeted health awareness initiative.
The event took place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Kalymnos Prefecture building, where a team of healthcare professionals informed employees about the prevention and early diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
This initiative is fully aligned with the strategic planning of the Ministry of Health and the National Program “PROLAMVANO”, which focuses on colorectal cancer prevention. At a time when free self-testing kits are provided to eligible citizens, raising awareness and providing accurate information is considered essential.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer; however, it is also among the most treatable when diagnosed at an early stage. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness about the importance of preventive screening, dispel common misconceptions regarding diagnostic procedures, and guide participants in effectively utilizing available prevention tools.
The scientific briefing and open discussion will be led by:
- Maria Outoutzi, Resident Doctor in General Surgery
- Niki Georgakopoulou, Nurse (University Education), MSc, SCPHN, PgDip(Ed)
- Konstantinos Zagorianos, Nurse (University Education), MSc(c), PgDip(c), CCRN
The Hospital’s administration reaffirms its commitment to promoting public health, emphasizing that prevention and education remain the cornerstone of effective healthcare.
