Illegal Works at Rhodes Tourism Authority Building Halted After Kalymnos Times Report
Just one day after Kalymnos Times published a public complaint (Wednesday, July 23) about unlawful construction activities at the Rhodes Tourism Authority building, all operations came to a sudden halt on Thursday, July 24.
The tools and materials were removed, leaving debris scattered on the sidewalk; scaffolding remained in place, and everyone involved hastily vanished from the site.
We had reported, according to information provided by an anonymous source, that no legal procedures had been followed for these renovations, which were allegedly set to be funded by public money.
The abrupt shutdown strongly suggests that the relevant authorities were concerned about the exposure of illegal activity, which is especially ironic, given that this same office imposes stringent regulations on local business owners.
Kalymnos Times has formally submitted the complaint to the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Transparency Authority, the Court of Audit, and the Urban Planning Office of Rhodes. We are awaiting official responses.
We call on the responsible bodies to thoroughly investigate what may amount to a financial scandal within the very Authority overseeing tourism policy for our island region.
