Kalymnos celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a major act of solidarity and compassion, inviting residents to take part in an initiative that can save lives.
The Kalymnos Association of Volunteer Blood Donors and Organ Donors “Agios Panteleimon”, in cooperation with the Blood Donation Department of the Chalkios Wing of Kalymnos Hospital, organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Drive on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the hospital’s Blood Donation Department.
The event was held in honor of World Blood Donor Day, which recognizes the invaluable contribution of voluntary, unpaid blood donors and raises awareness of the ongoing need for safe and sufficient blood supplies worldwide.
Under the message “Donate Blood, Give Life,” organizers encouraged all citizens to participate and contribute to a cause that directly benefits patients in need.
For another consecutive year, microbiologist Archontoula Alexiou supported the initiative by informing the public on bone marrow donor sampling, giving volunteers the opportunity to register as potential bone marrow donors and offering hope to patients battling life-threatening diseases.
