Exclusive Kalymnos Times footage aboard association president Manolis Koullias’s boat — Eirini Koullia draws on fifty years in fishing to discuss climate change and the state’s slow response.
A determined protest took place at Kalymnos port today, Sunday, October 11, 2026, organised by the Kalymnos Coastal Fishing Association as part of a nationwide mobilisation over the industry’s problems and the future of the profession.
A central concern was the fishers’ exclusion from the drafting of new legislation affecting their livelihood. They are calling for an immediate meeting with the minister responsible for fisheries, demanding that their views and needs be heard before decisions are taken that will shape the industry’s future in Greece.
Kalymnos Times reported from the heart of the protest, aboard the boat of association president Manolis Koullias, capturing exclusive footage of the mobilisation and his comments after it concluded.
The video also features Eirini Koullia, who brings fifty years of experience in fishing to her account of the growing challenges facing the profession. She discusses the impact of climate change and what she describes as the state’s slow response to the industry’s problems.
Kalymnos fishers are joining colleagues across Greece in demanding meaningful involvement in discussions about decisions that affect their ability to continue earning a living from the sea.
