Vigils, Festive Services and Traditional Music
The Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary will be celebrated with special religious services in Vathy, Kalymnos, on 14 and 15 August.
The programme has been organised by the churches of the Holy Trinity and Saint Theodore Stratelates, under the Holy Metropolis of Kalymnos, Leros and Astypalaia.
On Friday, 14 August, a Great Festal Vespers service will be held at Panagia Kyrachosti at 7:00 p.m. A second Great Festal Vespers will follow at 9:00 p.m. at the fortified monastery of Panagia Kyrapsili, while a sacred vigil will begin at the Holy Cave at 11:00 p.m.
On Saturday, 15 August, the celebrations will continue at 7:00 a.m. with Festal Matins and the Divine Liturgy at Panagia Kyrachosti.
At noon, prayers will be offered at the Sacred Olive Tree, followed by the return of the icon of Panagia Kyrapsili to its holy shrine at the Metochi.
Traditional music will also be offered free of charge to worshippers, completing the two-day celebration of one of the most important feasts in the Orthodox Christian calendar.
