Kalymnos is not merely observing developments, but actively participating in shaping decisions for the future of the region
The Mayor of Kalymnos, Giannis Mastrokoukos, participated in a teleconference to prepare the Development Plan of the Dodecanese Regional Unit (Northern Dodecanese), raising key issues concerning Kalymnos and its development.
During the teleconference, chaired by the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Thanasis Kontogeorgis, the Mayor of Kalymnos focused, among other things, on the following key issues for the island:
- Adequate ferry and air connectivity
- Sufficient water supply
- Waste management
- Developmental infrastructure (such as a Diving Park) – Telendos, Pserimos
In a time of planning and drafting the “National Strategy for Regional and Local Development,” the Municipal Authority, led by the Mayor, is not a mere spectator of developments. It is actively present in the decision-making centers for the islands’ future, participating in central planning processes, submitting proposals, and claiming the maximum possible benefits for the region.
In yesterday’s teleconference, in addition to the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, participants included the region’s MPs, the Regional Governor, George Hatzimarkos, and the Mayors of the Northern Dodecanese islands.
