Kalymnos Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos has expressed his support for the island’s fishermen taking protest action since October 1, 2026, describing their demands as justified.
Speaking from his office today at Kalymnos Town Hall, the mayor addressed the fishermen’s concerns and pledged to take their demands forward.
During the discussion, Kalymnos Times journalist Eleftheria Tiliakou pointed out, among other issues, that Kalymnos’s coastal fishermen are not participating in these protests and continue to work as usual.
She also asked the mayor whether he supports the threat by fishermen to sail their boats to Imia if their demands are not met, raising the issue of a possible escalation of the protests.
