The island of Kalymnos has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tagaras, a public figure widely recognized for his contribution to spatial and urban planning reforms in Greece.
In an official condolence message, the Prefect of the Kalymnos Regional Unit, Manolis Mousellis, praised Tagaras for his dedication, hard work, and strong sense of responsibility throughout his public service career. He highlighted the late Deputy Minister’s decisive role in advancing Local and Special Urban Planning Schemes, a major reform aimed at creating a modern and comprehensive framework for regional development.
Mousellis also referred to the long-standing cooperation between Kalymnos and Nikos Tagaras during the preparation of the island’s Local Urban Plan. According to the Prefect, Tagaras consistently listened to the concerns and proposals of the local community and sought practical solutions to issues affecting the island.
The Prefect noted that they had recently worked together once again through a teleconference regarding planning matters concerning Kalymnos, making the news of his passing even more shocking for the local community.
Concluding his statement, Mousellis extended his heartfelt condolences to Tagaras’ family, friends, and colleagues, emphasizing that his contribution to public administration, urban planning, and local government will remain a lasting legacy.
