An Emblematic Kalymnian Figure of Science, Art and the Diaspora
Katerina Giannatou, a distinguished member of the Kalymnian diaspora whose long life was marked by contributions to science, art and the Kalymnian community, has died at the age of 105.
A dentist by profession and a painter with a deep love of artistic expression, Giannatou successfully combined her scientific background with the sensitivity and creative freedom of art.
She had also served as president of the Union of Kalymnians of Attica, working to support the Kalymnian community in Athens and helping preserve its strong ties with the island.
Her life, which spanned more than a century, remained closely connected with Kalymnos, its traditions and its cultural heritage. Through her activities and presence, she became a notable representative of a generation that kept its Kalymnian identity alive while living away from the island.
Her death brings sorrow to her family, relatives and all those who knew her, as well as to the wider Kalymnian diaspora, which she served for many years.
Katerina Giannatou leaves behind a valuable legacy of creativity, cultural contribution and enduring love for Kalymnos.
