• In November 2024, following a debate with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the European Parliament approved the new College of Commissioners in its entirety.
• On the 1000th day since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the European Parliament held an extraordinary plenary session with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
• In a resolution adopted in March 2025, MEPs called for urgent action to safeguard European security, to be undertaken directly by the EU.
• In June 2025, the EP published its assessment, based on the European Commission’s Rule of Law Report, highlighting a broad range of threats to EU values within Member States.
• In October 2024, during its two scheduled sessions defending human rights and freedom of thought, as well as supporting independent investigative journalism, the EP awarded:
– The 2024 Daphne Caruana Galizia Journalism Prize to the investigation “Lost in Europe”
– The 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Venezuelan democratic opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia
• In May 2025, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the European Parliament decided to establish the European Order of Merit, the first honorary distinction of its kind in the EU.
• With two legislative acts adopted in December 2024, the EP facilitated rapid EU funding for the recovery of damages caused by natural disasters occurring after 1 January 2024.
• In June 2025, MEPs voted in favor of updating the EU-wide definitions concerning crimes of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
