Submitting the application does not necessarily guarantee placement in the selected school.
The registration process for Kindergartens and First Grade of Primary School is currently underway in Greece, with parents required to complete their digital applications by March 23 through the official gov.gr platforms.
Parents and guardians must access the online services using their TaxisNet credentials. Applications for preschool education are submitted through the “Kindergarten Registration” service, while applications for the first grade of primary school are submitted through the Ministry of Education’s dedicated platform.
Submitting the application on time is essential, as delays may create difficulties in the smooth enrollment of students in the education system for the upcoming school year.
However, parents should be aware that the acceptance of an online application does not automatically guarantee final enrollment in the selected school.
The system’s confirmation is only the first stage of the process. Registration becomes final only after the application deadline, once all supporting documents have been verified and the final student allocation has been completed by the regional Primary Education Directorates.
This issue usually arises in schools with high demand, where the number of applications exceeds the building’s capacity.
The number of students per class is strictly regulated and depends on factors such as:
- the number of available classrooms,
- the presence of students with special educational needs,
- and the requirement for siblings to attend the same school.
When these limits are exceeded, the Primary Education Directorate redistributes students to nearby schools.
The selection of the alternative school is based on:
- the distance from the student’s residence,
- and the available vacancies in neighboring schools.
According to the Ministry of Education’s timeline, the entire process is expected to be completed by April 14.
Parents can track the progress of their application through the online platform and will receive a notification via SMS or email informing them of the school where their child has been officially placed.
