Kalymnos Honours Giannis Maglis
The Municipality of Kalymnos is organising a special literary evening dedicated to acclaimed Kalymnian author Giannis Maglis on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 8:00 p.m., at the Agios Panteleimonas Open-Air Theatre.
The event will feature the presentation of a new edition of his landmark novel “My Brothers, Mankind” («Τ’ αδέρφια μου οι άνθρωποι»), published by Synchroni Epochi.
The republication of this significant work offers a special opportunity to revisit Maglis’ literary legacy and highlight the deep connection between his writing and his native island of Kalymnos.
The award-winning author drew inspiration from the lives of Kalymnian sponge divers—their daily struggles, sacrifices, fears and dignity. Through his writing, he transformed the island’s history and lived experiences into literature of enduring value and profound humanity.
The event forms part of the Municipality of Kalymnos’ “Cultural Summer 2026” programme and will also feature live music, bringing together literature, remembrance and the island’s rich cultural identity.
It promises to be a meaningful tribute to a writer who captured the soul of Kalymnos and placed the island’s working people at the heart of modern Greek literature.
