Dodecanese MP of New Democracy, Manos Konsolas, has highlighted the urgent need for a permanent and effective solution to the long-standing problems at the port of Mastichari in Kos through a parliamentary intervention.
In his formal inquiry addressed to the Ministers of Interior and Maritime Affairs & Insular Policy, Konsolas calls for funding both for the preparation of the necessary studies and for the implementation of a dredging project at the port, considered essential for improving its functionality and safety.
He stresses that, given the scale of the issues and the high cost of such a project, state intervention is necessary to ensure a sustainable and definitive solution. Funding, he notes, could come from either ministry or through a combined effort involving different levels of local government.
Konsolas also underlines the strategic importance of Mastichari port, which serves ferry routes connecting Kos with nearby islands. Together with the island’s international airport, the port forms a vital part of an integrated transport network that supports the tourism, economic, and social development of the wider region.
The intervention brings renewed attention to a long-standing infrastructure issue, calling for concrete actions and a clear implementation timeline.
