Immediate funding for environmental restoration and flood-prevention works on Kalymnos, along with financial assistance for farmers and livestock breeders affected by the destructive wildfires, has been requested by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas.
Through parliamentary interventions addressed to Greece’s Ministries of Environment and Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Konsolas has raised the issue of the island’s recovery, stressing that measures to restore the natural landscape and protect the affected areas must be activated without delay.
More specifically, he is calling for:
- The immediate designation of the burned areas as land requiring reforestation.
- Funding for their restoration through Greece’s National Reforestation Plan.
- A study by the forestry service, followed by funding for the necessary erosion-control and flood-prevention works on Kalymnos.
- Faster procedures under the State Aid framework so that farmers and livestock breeders whose operations suffered damage can receive immediate support.
The timely implementation of erosion-control and flood-prevention measures is considered essential to protecting the fire-damaged areas from further risks. The rapid assessment of losses in the island’s agricultural and livestock sectors also remains a priority.
According to the announcement issued on August 7, 2026, the parliamentary interventions aim to secure the resources required for Kalymnos’ environmental recovery and to provide prompt relief to those affected by the wildfires.
