Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has intervened with three government ministries proposing measures to control fuel prices and support permanent residents and self-employed professionals on the islands. He warns that geopolitical tensions and the conflict in Iran could lead to rising fuel prices, which disproportionately affect island regions due to high transportation costs.
Konsolas notes that the issue impacts residents and professionals who rely on vehicles or boats for their work and daily needs, smaller islands where fuel prices are already high, and the tourism sector as the tourist season approaches. He proposes activating a fuel pass for island residents and professionals, strengthening price monitoring and inspections, and revising regulations to allow the creation of fuel storage facilities on islands to help stabilize fuel prices.
