Manos Konsolas Calls for Reinforcement of Police Services in Northern Dodecanese
Dodecanese MP Mr. Manos Konsolas has submitted a new parliamentary intervention to the Minister of Citizen Protection, calling for the immediate reinforcement of police services under the B’ Police Directorate of the Dodecanese, as well as the coverage of vacant positions through emergency staff transfers.
As he points out, the recent reinforcement with 42 police officers is insufficient to meet the increased demands, given the existing shortages and the fact that only two-thirds of the Directorate’s official staffing positions are currently filled.
Mr. Konsolas highlights key issues:
- Only 10 police officers are stationed at Kos Airport, despite it being the 7th busiest airport in Greece in terms of arrivals and departures.
- There are significant staff shortages in passport control services.
- Newly established units require additional personnel, including the Traffic Department, Migration Management Department, Domestic Violence Response Office, and the Pre-Removal Detention Center (PRO.KE.K.A.) of Kos.
- Police stations in Nisyros and Astypalaia remain understaffed, despite rising tourist flows.
The MP stresses that the B’ Police Directorate of the Dodecanese is responsible for policing and border control across a wide multi-island area, covering Kos, Kalymnos, Patmos, Leros, Leipsoi, Astypalaia, Nisyros, Tilos, and Agathonisi.
