Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas argues that Rhodes’ contribution to public revenues—through income tax, VAT, tourism-related fees, and archaeological site earnings—is sufficient to cover the fiscal cost of reinstating reduced VAT rates on the island.
He stresses that Rhodes is not just a tourism showcase but a place of small and medium-sized businesses and residents struggling with inflation and high transportation costs. He firmly rejects linking VAT reductions to the establishment of migrant detention centers. Konsolas proposes the creation of a Coordinating Committee involving the Regional Governor, Mayor, MPs, and the Economic Chamber to jointly advocate for the measure, supported by data and meetings with political leadership.
