Kalymnos Transfer Station Fully Operational
The Municipality of Kalymnos has announced that the Waste Transfer Station (SMA) is now fully operational and is accepting only mixed municipal household waste, while urging residents to strictly follow waste disposal regulations.
According to the announcement, municipal authorities have recently observed the improper disposal of bulky items, tree branches, grass, large quantities of cardboard, and other unsuitable materials inside or next to public waste bins. These materials are transported together with household waste to the transfer station, causing operational difficulties, increasing the risk of equipment damage, and reducing the efficiency of waste management.
The Municipality is asking residents to:
- Dispose of only mixed household waste in the green bins.
- Avoid leaving bulky items, branches, grass, construction debris, or large amounts of cardboard beside waste containers.
- Contact the Municipality’s competent services for guidance on the proper disposal of bulky waste and other special materials.
Municipal officials stress that public cooperation is essential for the smooth operation of the Waste Transfer Station, the protection of its equipment, and the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness across the island.
The announcement concludes by emphasizing that responsible waste management is a shared responsibility and a key step toward keeping Kalymnos clean, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
