A heated ND–PASOK clash erupted in Parliament over references to the Imia crisis and the use of the term “grey zones/greyed-out” in the Aegean. PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis intervened, urging the ruling New Democracy to drop what he called “dangerous narratives,” stressing that “there is no ‘greying’ in the Aegean.” He called on the prime minister and the relevant officials to publicly condemn statements by ND parliamentary representative Makarios Lazaridis, arguing they undermine national interests and echo Turkish propaganda.
The confrontation escalated after Niki party leader Dimitris Natsios described Imia as a major national defeat and spoke of ongoing concessions. Lazaridis responded by praising ND’s defense policy but blamed the then PASOK government for actions that, he claimed, led to the “greying” of the Aegean—prompting PASOK’s Pavlos Christidis to demand a retraction and the removal of the remark from the official record. The exchange continued with sharp accusations from both sides over responsibility for the handling and legacy of the Imia crisis.
