Traditional Crafts and Aegean Heritage at the Heart of the Dodecanese Chamber Meeting
Important proposals and discussions regarding the future of traditional professions and island entrepreneurship were presented during the Board meeting of the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce held on May 23, 2026, in Kalymnos.
Council member from Archangelos, Rhodes, Tsambikos Roufas, presented a comprehensive proposal entitled “Investing in the Traditional Professions of the Dodecanese as a Perspective for the Future,” emphasizing the preservation of local identity, job creation, and the connection between tradition, tourism, and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, council member from Patmos, Giorgos Kamitsis, referred to his proposal concerning the artisans of the Aegean and Aegean cuisine, highlighting in particular his long-standing experience in the restoration and reopening of the traditional windmills of our islands, transforming them into living landmarks of culture and tourism.
The President of the Dodecanese Chamber, Giannis Pappou, stressed the importance of cooperation through the creation of business clusters, noting that collective action can significantly strengthen the competitiveness and outward orientation of island enterprises.
Vice President Faidra Spanou also referred to the spirit of cooperation and unity she observed among local entrepreneurs, expressing optimism for future joint initiatives and development partnerships.
Finally, the Regional Governor, in his greeting address, spoke about the important role played by the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce in supporting the local economy, entrepreneurship, and the overall development of the islands.
