Speaking on the programme “10 Pantou” on OPEN TV, SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance spokesperson Kostas Zachariadis stated that no political party exists without a clear ideological positioning.
Commenting on statements by Ms Karystianou regarding abortion, he argued that such views clearly belong to the hard-core far right, both in Greece and internationally. He stressed that women’s bodily autonomy is a fundamental achievement of European and Western civilisation. He also noted that individuals who appear repeatedly in the media inevitably assume a political role, regardless of their original professional background.
Zachariadis questioned Ms Karystianou’s repeated focus on former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, pointing out that in Europe the 2015–2019 period is assessed differently. He underlined that Greece exited the bailout programmes under SYRIZA’s government, without corruption scandals, unlike earlier administrations.
Regarding Nikos Androulakis’ call, he reiterated SYRIZA–PS’s long-standing proposal, since early 2024, for a broad convergence of progressive forces, free of hegemonic attitudes and self-referential politics. He stressed that any effort to reorganise the progressive camp that excludes Alexis Tsipras ignores political reality, adding that Tsipras could play a decisive and unifying role in such a process.
