Kalymnos Makes All the Right Moves
The 2nd Kalymnos Chess Festival concluded successfully with more than 60 players, ranging in age from seven to 77, highlighting the sport’s growing momentum and potential on the island.
The Festival was held under the auspices of the Kalymnos Regional Administration, with the participation of the Kastro Kalymnou Athletic Club and the LEON CANDIA Chess Club.
Players of all ages took their places at the chessboards and competed in a series of challenging and entertaining matches. The event brought together sport, intellectual development and fair competition, demonstrating that chess can unite people regardless of age or background.
A particularly noteworthy aspect of this year’s Festival was the participation of players from across Greece. Competitors travelled to Kalymnos from Heraklion, Rhodes, Athens, Thessaloniki, Leros and Samos, while local chess players also had a strong presence throughout the event.
The high turnout and standard of competition have created promising conditions for the Kalymnos Chess Festival to become an established sporting institution and an important chess event for the wider Dodecanese region.
In a statement, the Kalymnos Regional Unit congratulated the organisers, players, volunteers and everyone who contributed to the Festival’s success. It also stressed the value of initiatives that encourage children and young people to discover chess and become more involved in sport.
Following this year’s successful event, expectations are already rising for an even bigger and more dynamic 3rd Kalymnos Chess Festival.
