The Board of the North Aegean Regional Union of Municipalities unanimously approved a proposal by the Mayor of Eastern Samos, Paris Papageorgiou, to adopt a joint resolution regarding the second phase of the Local Urban Plans (TPS). The initiative aims at a coordinated intervention by the mayors of Aegean islands and includes a request for a meeting with the responsible minister and the Prime Minister. Papageorgiou criticized the new Presidential Decree defining settlement boundaries, arguing that it leads to the shrinking of settlements, depreciation of private property, and a development-restrictive environment for the islands. The North Aegean municipal leaders warned that they may proceed with mobilizations and recommend rejecting the plans in municipal councils if the proposed framework is not amended.
