Pontian Greek Genocide Remembrance Day Kalymnos, 2025
The Regional Unit of Kalymnos announces the schedule of events for the Pontian Greek Genocide Remembrance Day, officially established by law on May 19th. The events honor the memory of the victims of the genocide committed by the Ottoman regime in the early 20th century.
Scheduled Events:
- Friday, May 23, 2025
Educational speeches will be held in primary and secondary schools to inform students about the day.
- Sunday, May 25, 2025
- 08:00–Sunset: General flag display on all public and private buildings and vessels.
- 10:30: Memorial service at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Savior Christ, officiated by Metropolitan Paisios.
- 11:00: Commemorative ceremony at the Heroes’ Monument, with wreath-laying by local and military authorities.
- From sunset: Public buildings will be illuminated.
- 08:00–Sunset: General flag display on all public and private buildings and vessels.
Local authorities and citizens are invited to attend. Honors will be rendered by the Kalymnos Municipal Philharmonic and a military detachment.
