Today, August 4th, 2025, in the Municipality of Kalymnos, several representatives of the Kalymnian diaspora met with the Mayor of Kalymnos, Mr. Ioannis Mastrokoukos, and the Deputy Mayor for Diaspora Affairs, Tourism, and Public Relations, Ms. Kalliopi Koutouzi-Vogelzang. The meeting was ceremonial in nature, and the participants agreed to meet again without cameras to discuss the issues and requests of the diaspora in greater detail.
Present at the meeting were Mr. Nikolaos Kalouris, Vice President of the Kalymnian diaspora in the USA, Ms. Kalotina Skylla, President of the Kalymnian Association of Attica, and Ms. Maria Valla, President of the Kalymnians of Rhodes, who participated via video call.
Mr. Antonis Miaoudis, representative of the Kalymnians in Australia, was absent but had submitted printed material to Ms. Koutouzi outlining the activities of the Kalymnians there. Due to technical issues, Ms. Valla was unable to be heard during the call.
It is worth noting that Ms. Skylla stated that the main demand of the Kalymnians in Attica is the reduction of ferry ticket prices, as the current costs make it impossible for them to vacation on the island.
