Manos Konsolas paid tribute to the selflessness and sense of duty of a 52-year-old firefighter from Embonas who, according to his statement, lost his life on Rhodes while trying to help people in danger.
In a statement dated 22 September 2026, Mr Konsolas expressed his shock at the tragic loss and stressed the state’s responsibility to support the family of the firefighter who died in the line of duty.
He also extended his sincere condolences to the firefighter’s loved ones and the wider Fire Service community.

“A firefighter lost his life on Rhodes while trying to help people who were in danger.
His selflessness and sense of duty led him to make the ultimate sacrifice.
We are all shocked by this tragic news.
The state has a duty to stand by the family of the firefighter who died in the line of duty.
I extend my sincere condolences to his loved ones and to the wider Fire Service family.”
