The cancellation also covers associations and community organisations amid the risk of dangerous weather across the islands.
School parades marking OXI Day will not take place in Kalymnos or anywhere else in the Dodecanese on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, following a decision signed by Christos Efstratiou, Deputy Regional Governor for the Dodecanese and Civil Protection.
The cancellation was ordered because of the significant risk of dangerous weather across all regional units of the Dodecanese.
It also applies to parade contingents from associations, organisations and community groups.
Only the military parade will go ahead in the city of Rhodes.
For Kalymnos, the decision means that schoolchildren and local associations will not take part in the customary parade commemorating Greece’s rejection of the Axis ultimatum on 28 October 1940.
The decision cites the “Red Code” civil protection mobilisation for the South Aegean Region, issued by the Secretary General for Civil Protection on 26 October because of the risk of flooding throughout the Dodecanese.
It also takes into account an urgent document from the South Aegean Region’s Civil Protection Directorate, accompanied by a recommendation from an emergency meeting of the regional civil protection coordinating body.
The stated reason for cancelling the school and community sections of the parades is the serious possibility of dangerous weather affecting all regional units of the Dodecanese.
