The Summer Tournament for Juniors and Adults in memory of Nikolaos Papazoglou, held on August 24-25, 2024, has successfully concluded. We are delighted and very satisfied that yet another event on our island has been crowned with success! All participants were exemplary, demonstrating noble sportsmanship and athletic spirit.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to the owner of Crystal Café Restaurant, Mr. Pavlos Zairis, for providing the venue and offering warm hospitality; our guest and adult tournament gold winner, Mr. Thomas Aristotle Karagiannis, who traveled from distant Thessaloniki to participate and also contributed as a referee (we are honored that you joined us exclusively for the tournament—thank you, dear Thomas); Mr. Johannes Ley and Mr. Panagiotis Koulianos for providing the chessboards; Mrs. Katerina Kritikou, who accompanied all the young athletes from Kos to our island, and for her commendable efforts in establishing a chess club in neighboring Kos; our treasurer, Mr. Giorgos Papazoglou, for coordinating the matches in memory of his father, one of the Chess Club of Kalymnos’ founders and visionaries.

Above all, we would like to thank all the citizens of Kalymnos who encourage and inspire us in every way on our journey to establish this wonderful intellectual sport. We are truly grateful and strive to achieve our goals.
