For Mr. Marinakis, the tragic fatal accident in Trikala “has nothing to do with labor issues”
According to the government spokesperson, workplace health and safety issues apparently have nothing to do with labor matters.
The rise in workplace fatalities and accidents in our country — and the record number of deaths in 2025 — apparently has nothing to do with labor issues.
Whether the Labor Inspectorate and oversight mechanisms are understaffed and deliberately degraded apparently has nothing to do with labor issues.
The “labor jungle” legislated by New Democracy— with unpaid overtime, the abolition of the requirement for a justified reason for dismissal, the six-day workweek, and 10-hour and 13-hour shifts — apparently has nothing to do with labor issues.
The only thing that, in Mr. Marinakis’ view, concerns labor matters is to pre-empt the causes of a deadly workplace incident before the investigations by the fire service and judicial authorities are completed. That is what he considers his job. That is what he does.
