The party calls for strict inspections and accountability following a reported new explosion that seriously injured two contract workers.
SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance has called for accountability over alleged breaches of workplace health and safety rules at Motor Oil’s facilities in Agioi Theodoroi, following reports of another explosion that seriously injured two employees of a contracting company.
In a statement issued on October 15, 2026, the party’s press office said the incident occurred less than a week after a fatal workplace accident on October 9, in which two workers lost their lives.
The party alleges serious shortcomings in the protection of contract workers carrying out maintenance at the refinery, describing unacceptable oversights and gaps in compliance with health and safety rules.
Citing the successive incidents, SYRIZA urged the competent authorities to conduct rigorous inspections and take the necessary enforcement action to establish responsibility. Work at the facilities must cease to be “a matter of life or death,” the statement said.
The party also called on the Ministry of Labour to fulfil its responsibilities and take all necessary measures to protect workers.
The statement concluded by wishing the injured employees a speedy recovery.
