Local Businesses Concerned Ahead of the Early Tourist Season
The small island of Telendos is facing serious concerns following the recent severe weather that caused significant damage to infrastructure and public areas.
Strong winds and rough seas hit the seafront, damaging piers, walking paths and access points, while in some cases restaurants and tourist accommodations also suffered material losses. The island, one of Kalymnos’ most popular summer destinations, is now under pressure just before the start of the tourist season.
Local business owners are expressing growing anxiety, as this year’s season is expected to begin earlier than usual, with bookings already increasing from spring. According to them, the immediate restoration of damages is essential both for visitor safety and for the smooth operation of local businesses.
“Telendos cannot afford delays,” local professionals stress, calling on the competent authorities to proceed swiftly with repair works before visitor numbers peak.
The main concern now remains the timeline for restoration. So far, no official schedule has been announced, further intensifying uncertainty.
The local community is urging immediate action, emphasizing that Telendos is a vital pillar of the region’s tourism product and must not remain vulnerable ahead of the upcoming season.
