Tensions over Old Police Station – Press Conference Cancelled
Tensions emerged in Kalymnos following the cancellation of a scheduled press conference by the local committee of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), which was set to address the future use of the old Police Station building in Chora.
According to an official statement from the Kalymnos Regional Unit, the event was called off after the Mayor of Kalymnos abruptly withdrew, reportedly objecting to the institutional presence of the South Aegean Region and the Regional Authority.
Authorities emphasized that the building holds historical and public significance for the local community, stressing that any development initiative should proceed through cooperation among all relevant stakeholders.
The statement also highlighted the importance of responsibility and coordination in matters concerning public property, criticizing unilateral actions that create uncertainty and undermine the public interest.
The Kalymnos Regional Authority reaffirmed its commitment to institutional responsibility and collaboration, aiming to ensure the optimal use of the historic building for the benefit of citizens.
